Since 1983, the mission of the nonprofit PAIRS Foundation has been to teach those attitudes, emotional understandings, and behaviors that nurture and sustain healthy relationships (collectively called "relationship skills") and to make this knowledge broadly available on behalf of a safer, saner, more loving world. PAIRS has developed best practices in evidence-based marriage, family and couples education, including curricula, training processes, ethical standards, and quality management, that have been widely delivered through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and private practitioners across the globe. PAIRS programs have touched countless lives, offering real promise for a future in which healthy, thriving marriages and families provide the foundation for resilient communities.

In 2017, in order to focus greater human, financial and systematic resources to advance this mission, PAIRS Foundation assigned exclusive worldwide rights and responsibility for marketing, distribution, licensing, accreditation and related activities to make the knowledge and technology represented by PAIRS intellectual properties, including the full range of PAIRS curricula, to Purpose Built Families Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nationally accredited nonprofit.

Since 2011, Purpose Built Families Foundation, through it's Operation Sacred Trust ("OST") collaboration, has conducted outreach, enrollment, case management, resiliency and financial assistance programs that have reduced Veteran homelessness by nearly 50% in South Florida, helping disrupt and prevent homelessness for thousands of America's former servicemen and women through public-private partnerships that strengthen the very fabric of community. With a multi-million dollar annual budget, staff training and client services models built on the PAIRS approach, the program helps very low-income veterans strengthen family, friendships and social supports as vital building blocks to sustainable housing stability and independence.

Purpose Built Families advances the PAIRS' mission by actively engaging leadership of public and private enterprises, faith-based and educational networks, healthcare, law enforcement and other influential stakeholders in support of comprehensive community wellness that is sustainable and replicable as a foundation for children and families to pursue the promise and potential of their lives.

PAIRS (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) programs provide a comprehensive system to enhance self-knowledge and develop the ability to sustain pleasurable intimate relationships. The program's innovative approach integrates a wide range of theories and methods from psychology, education and psychotherapy and presents them in an educational format.
